Cecando updates to the firmware from my PowerShot A710IS, I came across the CHDK (Canon Hacking Development Kit) that extends the functionality of certain models of Canon cameras.
is not a new firmware file, but rather acts as a software to be run from the camera uses the trick of pretending to be a firmware update, then once Recharge works on low-level features machine, showing the settings through a graphical interface well integrated with the factory options (fully customizable).
Some features that I find interesting and useful are:
DIGIC processors are an evolution of x86, you can program scripts with uBASIC (basic simplified). the project is still under improvement and development.
I already can not do without!

Some features that I find interesting and useful are:
- Save photos in raw format (raw, negative digital)
- mestre Histogram of the photos you are shooting
- Battery indicator (for some reason not implemented by Canon)
- bracketing (multiple shots with a variation in some settings, exp, Tv, Av, ISO)
- Alerts under / over-exposure (zebra mode)
